the origin of giddyupz
THE COWBOY & THE CATALYST
John Wayne Y. spent his life in the saddle. A true cowboy and Hollywood horse trainer, he made his living relying on physical strength, balance, and a strong sense of independence. When a tragic and devastating set injury left him unable to walk, John suddenly found himself facing a new, deeply personal battle for his mobility and the personal independence that he cherished.
Cowboy strong and refusing to surrender his independence, he realized the world lacked a practical, heavy-duty solution to help him navigate his daily life. So, he invented one. He engineered the original GIDDYUPZ "Stirrup" grab handle, a sturdy, reliable lifeline born from his own daily struggle.
Recognizing that he wasn't the only one fighting this battle, John dedicated his remaining time and energy to perfecting GIDDYUPZ, determined to help others reclaim their freedom and get back in the driver's seat of their own lives.
THE HELLHOUND STANDARD
Part of John's vision in helping folks was that the product couldn't just be another cheap, mass-produced piece of plastic. It needed to reflect true American durability. That is where Gavin Ambrose of Hellhound Leather Co. entered our story.
Gavin’s own journey into leathercraft was also born from necessity; as a young man, he needed a holster for an armed security job and was deeply dissatisfied with low-quality options on the market. What began as an "I'll do it myself" venture eventually grew into commitment to the craft. Founding Hellhound Leather Co. in the foothills of the Utah Rocky Mountains with his wife, the Ambrose family built Hellhound on a simple but powerful standard: when your family name is on the line, there are no corners to cut.
.
"Rooted in the Western Rocky Mountains, our family-run workshop is built on the industrious spirit of the American West. We are deeply passionate about the reputation of our craft and our family name, which means we cut no corners. Sourcing only the finest full grain leathers from United States tanneries, we create traditionally crafted, heirloom-quality goods designed to last a lifetime.
True craftsmanship cannot be rushed so every bespoke piece is built to order, one by one, and we pour everything we have into our work. We are committed to the value of what we create; both in Leather and Legacy."

By partnering with Hellhound Leather Co., Giddyupz secured a commitment to absolute quality. We brought production strictly to the United States, utilizing Gavin's master artisans to handcraft every single strap with premium full-grain leathers and industrial-grade hardware and Biothane.
A LEGACY OF INDEPENDENCE
Today, the story of GIDDYUPZ continues to grow from the Hellhound workshop in Utah. We are a proud, small family business rooted in traditional Rocky Mountain craftsmanship and the unwavering American spirit.
Every GIDDYUPZ handle we craft is a tribute to John’s original fight for independence and Gavin's dedication to quality.
Whether you are bolting it to the roll cage of a lifted rig or mounting it beside a bed to help a loved one stand tall, you aren’t just installing a handle. You are holding on to a legacy of resilience, strength, and American grit.
